Needle & Syringe Programme

On the 8th June 2010 ALDP staff members carried out our first needle exchange intervention on the streets of Dublin’s North Inner City.

The Needle & Syringe Programme (NSP) is a health promotion intervention grounded in the harm reduction philosophy; where drug users can obtain sterile injecting equipment and other drug paraphernalia at no cost to them. The aim of these services is to reduce the damage associated with sharing used injecting equipment i.e. preventing the spread of HIV, HepC, vein damage, overdose, etc.

The ALDP provide discreet NSP services on a fixed site or outreach basis in Dublin, the Midlands Region and North East. Offering NSP interventions and referrals on to higher threshold health and social services.
